I made mention of how I will need to learn LibreOffice Calc for my spreadsheet software. There are two things this brings up. First is why learn a spreadsheet application if you made it this far without one. And second, why LibreOffice Calc?
The first is why learn a spreadsheet to begin with. Well, mostly for taxes. I will assume 25% of my earnings every month will have to be devoted for taxes. So at the beginning of the year, I will have to account for my taxes. The only other option will be to have a dedicated account exclusively to hold my tax estimate, and hope I am right. By keeping everything into one account, it will make me look as wealthy as I am. Also, I will like to think that I can tell myself no with that shiny new toy. The same principal will go for my emergency fund. I will keep all of these resources into one account, and therefore make life simpler.
So why LibreOffice Calc? Well, I have a Mac, and Numbers I am sure will work just as good, and better since there is no office suite I will need to install. However, I can’t export to MS Office format when I take my spreadsheet to my account for tax purposes. With Calc, I will expect that I can do that, and therefore make life so much easier for my accountant. I would rather use Numbers since it is there, and will work just as well for me, but I have to think about compatibility when it comes to other authorized people to access my files.
